Hemorrhoid Itching – How to Stop the Irritation?

Hemorrhoid ItchingDo you suffer from hemorrhoid itching?   Aside from hemorrhoid itching, a person with hemorrhoids also suffer from burning sensation and intense pain.  Streaks of blood and mucus may also appear.   This can cause a lot of discomfort.

External hemorrhoids cause itching and burning directly when they become inflamed.  A person with internal hemorrhoid will also experience rectal itching in cases of fecal incontinence.  When fecal matter dries in the external skin, the veins in the rectum and anus can get irritated, the surrounding membranes swell, burn, and itch, become very painful, and bleed.

If you are irritated by hemorrhoid itching, do not scratch or scrub your anus because this will upset the balance of the skin surrounding the anus.  Several oil producing glands within the skin around the anus serve to clean and lubricate the area.  If you strip away this essential oil by scratching, scrubbing, or applying harsh cleansers, soaps, or chemicals, surface infections can develop.

As preventive measures to avoid hemorrhoid itching , cleanse the entire rectal area with warm water after each bowel movement and use bulk fiber laxative to soften stools.   Wear loose fitting cotton underwear that can absorb excessive mucus or incontinence away from delicate skin.

There is no reason for you to endure hemorrhoid itching and pain that can interfere with your daily activities.   To alleviate  hemorrhoid itching, have a sitz bath.   Use half a cup of magnesium sulfate and mix with water for sitz bath.  The rectal area is soaked in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.  Next, apply magnesium sulfate compress to the anus.

You can also use surface-acting creams and suppositories because these can also effectively relieve burning and itching sensation in the rectum.  Use soothing cream containing cocoa butter or a similar moisturizer, pat the itchy area gently with a medicated pad or plain or soft moistened toilet paper.  For internal hemorrhoids, take ibuprofen tablets or capsules that serve as painkiller and an anti-inflammatory.
